Dedication Masses

After undergoing an extensive and painstaking restoration, the Mother Church was finally ready to welcome home the flock. The Dedication Mass of the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd was celebrated on 14 February 2017. About 2,500 participants attended the Mass, most of them spilling out to the Cathedral grounds. Guests in attendance included Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon and former Member of Parliament Mr Lim Boon Heng. During the Dedication Mass, the Cathedral and its compound were blessed with Holy Water. The relics of St Laurent Imbert and St Francis Xavier were deposited into the Cathedral’s altar by Archbishop Goh. This was followed by 12 days of celebrations which included Masses celebrated by the Priests of the various districts in the diocese, talks and reflections, as well as Masses celebrated for various groups of Catholics.

The newly-built Church of the Transfiguration held its Dedication Mass on 6 August 2017, the same day as the Feast of the Transfiguration. Archbishop William Goh, in his Homily, reminded the congregation to focus on the ‘’formation of people’’. Archbishop Goh deposited the relics of St Laurent Imbert and St Jerome Lu into the church’s altar. The relics of St James, St Peter and St John were also deposited, and can be seen in glass reliquaries just below the altar.

On 3 December 2017, the Legion celebrated its 70th anniversary in Singapore, with a Mass, held in Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace. Some 900 Legionaries and their families and friends were in attendance. In his Homily, Archbishop William Goh spoke on the different roles Legionaries had played in the Church the last 70 years, which included outreach work, attending wakes and funerals and selling the Catholic News. He also urged Legionaries to renew and re-strategize, as well as to see how their talents, charisms and resources could be used to align with the Church.

Major Seminary and Catholic Theological Institute of Singapore (CTIS) was blessed and opened by Archbishop

The new St Francis Xavier Major Seminary and Catholic Theological Institute of Singapore (CTIS) was blessed and opened by Archbishop William Goh on 22 August 2018. Both the Seminary and CTIS are located in the same building, which is next to the Church of St Joseph (Bukit Timah). The blessing ceremony saw Archbishop Goh incensing, and Fr Valerian Cheong, Rector of the Seminary, blessing the building. Archbishop Goh explained to the Seminarians that they need to have humility, compassion and collaboration, as part of their preparation for their formation to the Priesthood. He also urged ‘’more collaborative efforts for the work of evangelisation for the growth of the Archdiocese”, since the Seminary and CTIS now share the same premises.
