Dedication Masses
After undergoing an extensive and painstaking restoration, the Mother Church was finally ready to welcome home the flock. The Dedication Mass of the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd was celebrated on 14 February 2017. About 2,500 participants attended the Mass, most of them spilling out to the Cathedral grounds. Guests in attendance included Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon and former Member of Parliament Mr Lim Boon Heng. During the Dedication Mass, the Cathedral and its compound were blessed with Holy Water. The relics of St Laurent Imbert and St Francis Xavier were deposited into the Cathedral’s altar by Archbishop Goh. This was followed by 12 days of celebrations which included Masses celebrated by the Priests of the various districts in the diocese, talks and reflections, as well as Masses celebrated for various groups of Catholics.
The newly-built Church of the Transfiguration held its Dedication Mass on 6 August 2017, the same day as the Feast of the Transfiguration. Archbishop William Goh, in his Homily, reminded the congregation to focus on the ‘’formation of people’’. Archbishop Goh deposited the relics of St Laurent Imbert and St Jerome Lu into the church’s altar. The relics of St James, St Peter and St John were also deposited, and can be seen in glass reliquaries just below the altar.
Re-Opening and Blessing Of St Alphonsus Church (Novena Church)
The 67-year old church now stands in all its graceful splendour, the sanctuary revealing its soaring arches, intricate columns, a dome and 24 large stained glass windows.
The seating capacity has almost doubled, from 800 to 1,500 and there is also more standing room after the carpark was converted into a plaza.
