Chalice with a gold bowl and silver base. Inscription on the base: SANGUIS CHRISTI IPSO PARENTUM IN CALICE QUOTIDIE LIBETUR (“He drinks daily the blood of Christ the Father from the chalice”) R.P. ANT SCHOTTE CICM ORDAINED IN 1928.
The chalice is a sacred vessel and is often referred to as though it were synonymous with the Precious Blood itself. “The chalice of benediction, which we bless “, writes St. Paul, “is it not the communion of the blood of Christ?” ( 1 Corinthians 10:16 ). The chalice of a priest is often something of great personal significance to them. It often has a story that is close to his heart, as a priest’s chalice is the cup he uses to transform wine into the blood of Christ at Mass.
Presented to Fr Anton Schotte on the anniversary of his sacerdotal ordination.
